This bread basket is handwoven from a river reed called Carrizo in Oaxaca, Mexico. This type of basket weaving pre-dates the Spanish conquest and the baskets have been used by farmers and traders for many centuries. Carrizo, although flexible is very difficult to cut for weaving.
